Viru bog

Viru is the bog most visitors see first, and for good reason. It is close to the Tallinn–Narva road, the boardwalk is wide and even, and within ten minutes of the car park the pine forest gives way to open bog.

Halfway along, a wooden observation tower lets you look over the hummocks and pools towards the forest edge. On a still morning the pools reflect the sky so cleanly that the boardwalk seems to float.

It gets busy on summer weekends. Come early, or in late autumn when the heather has turned brown and the light is low all day.

The path is not a loop: plan to walk back the same way or arrange a pickup at the far end.
